LEAVEAMARC ART | MARC SABBAGH

love my minis (11x14 matted) - for years, these have been my way of testing colors, practicing new techniques, and finding interesting compositions.

working small yesterday. painting on top of older studies creates a nice foundation to build on.

every artist hits the "messy middle"... that moment where the painting stops progressing and hesitation creeps in.

here are 3 ways i break the freeze and keep progressing:

1. pick up the pace. moving faster forces me to rely on intuition rather than overthinking. speed literally creates physical momentum that can reenergize you.

2. switch tools. swapping my brush for something different introduces a new element. an unfamiliar mark immediately creates new decisions to react to.

3. rotate the work. abstract art is special since it isn't bound by a single orientation. i take advantage of this and turn the piece. it usually reveals something new and makes things less "precious" to keep you moving.

how do you move forward when a piece feels "stuck"?
